DataScope Log Files

You can save a complete log of what is happening on a port for later study. DataScope logs both send and receive data, along with all control signals. To create a new log file or open an existing one (new data is always appended to the end of an existing file), choose Log File --- Open from the Action menu. You will see an OpenFile dialog box. Enter the name of your log file (the default file extension is .dsd), and click OK to start the logging operation. When you want to stop logging, just select LogFile -- Close.

To replay a log file, you must first Disconnect from any port you are monitoring. If no log file is currently open, choose LogFile -- Open and enter the name of the log file you want to replay. Then select ReplayLog from the ActionMenu, and the replay will begin.

You can select the Pause item in the Action menu (or hit the space bar) to pause the replay, then use the scroll bar in the window to scan back and forth through the file. You can also use Page Up and Page Down to scan more quickly. When you're ready to resume live action, select the Resume item (or hit the Enter key). If you want to start playing the log file from the beginning, choose Replay Log. To stop the replay, choose End Replay.
